Turfing

Count on the turfing experts today

Sometimes the only option for a very old or severely damaged lawn is to re-turf. Professional turfing can transform even the worst lawns into shining examples in no time at all.

To some people, turfing is simply buying some turf and throwing it down over the bad area, but if it's not done properly it will soon be back to being a terrible eyesore in a few short months.

We believe that any job worth doing is worth doing properly, so we have developed our own methods at Eco Lawns which we have tweaked and perfected over many years. When done correctly, turfing is a great way to transform lifeless, unsalvageable lawns. We tailor our approach to each and every customer, and as a local, independent business you can count on us to care about your needs.

We handle the whole project from start to finish

Before we start anything, we will conduct a free lawn survey, to see if anything can be saved. It might be that a renovation or even just a lawn care programme can restore your lawn!

If we decide turfing is the best solution, the first step is to remove the existing lawn. In some cases this will be treated with a glyphosate product to kill the grass first, and in some cases this step won't be necessary. Once the grass is ready, we remove the old lawn.

You will then be left with a fairly compacted area of soil. This has to be loosened up and rotavated before proceeding any further. Once the soil is light and fluffy, we gently compress it.

Next up we add a high-quality top dressing to the area. The amount required varies depending on the size of the lawn and if the level needs to be raised at all, but generally lawns that need to be turfed would also benefit from some improvement to the overall soil quality, so the more the better. Once this soil is in the down it can be levelled and lightly compressed again.

Finally, the actual turfing stage, and again it would be pretty easy to just throw the turf down and consider it “job done”, but our fully trained staff will always take extra time ensuring all the turf is laid perfectly and we will “cut in” each roll leaving a smooth finish.

After clearing up and ensuring that as little mess as possible is left, we provide extensive instructions on how to best maintain your new turf, including instructions on both mowing and watering in both the short and longer term.

As with all we do, we offer a satisfaction guarantee, so if any issues arise as a result of the work we've done, we’ll come back and fix it for you until it's right.
